Bristol Bikefest - less than three weeks to go!

Time has simply flown by and the summer is starting to make its 1st attempts to show what will hopefully be in store. With all the cold and wet weather it was easy to forget that the Ritchey Bikefest is now less than 3 weeks away and will kick off on the 7-8th June on the famous trails of Ashton Court, Bristol.

So if you haven't made plans for the 2nd biggest MTB event in the country which combines great racing with the Bristol typical laid back atmosphere then better make sure you jump onto the entry page and secure your entry now.

What is going on over the weekend?

In 2014 the Bristol Bikefest has secured the usage of the fantastic course in Ashton Court, Bristol as well as the event campground and facilities of the Bristol Cathedral Choir School sports fields. The campground and event village is on the edge of the existing course and offers fantastic changing, shower and toilet facilities as well as ample trackside space for the riders.

Both days of the weekend are aimed at the experienced rider as well as the newcomer. We will have solo, pairs and teams of 4 categories on both days.

All team sizes can be entered in the team open, team 'old gits' or the two new categories for 2014 - the 'young'uns' or 'Super Old Gits'. The Solo category for the 12 hour event is closed but all other categories are still available.

The Bikefest Course:

Now going into its 3rd year of use the much loved Ashton Court course is getting better and better. Properly bedded in now in combines fast and flowy single track sections with all weather capability. So if you like your single track, mixed in with open climbs and the perfect mix between gaining height and getting the maximum 'pay back' for it than this is for you!

To demonstrate what the event is all about check out the 2013 Bristol Bikefest event video.

Steve Worland Memorial Cup:

To honour or friend Steve Worland and to generate lots of money in his name for the two charitable causes Steve's Partner Jo and his daughter Holly nominated, we have created the 'Steve Worland ride singletrack hard & drink a swig of cider per lap memorial cup 2014'. We had lots of very positive comments about the event but so far only a few have entered this special event. Find all the details on the cup here.

Come on and get your entry in now and don't forget that all proceeds will go to the two charities. Don't forget to add 'SWMC' at the beginning of your team name so that we can distinguish your entry from the normal Bikefest event.

The run-time of the event has now been set to 9 hours and 23 minutes - so we are starting at 11.37am on Saturday and finish at 9pm. More details here.

Charity auction update:

Since the last update on the very exciting charity auction who's takings will also go towards buying defibrillators for Ashton Court as well as to the Psoriasis Association Charity we have had many more donations and have formalised how things will work.

The following companies / brands have donated: Orange, Halfords, On-One, Sram, Nukeproof, Bike Park Wales, Merida, Marin, Ritchey, Mavic, Camelbak, Urge, 100%, KTM, Polaris, Fisher Outdoors, Surley, Halo, Upgrade, One Industries, Kona and Howies.

We are working on having our 'Steve Worland Memorial Auction' live on e-bay by the 11th May and it will finish on the event Sunday the 8th of June.

Here we will auction off the bigger items like bikes, framesets, wheelsets and any other special items. The remaining items will be auctioned off at the event before as well as after the prize presentation on Saturday night. Everyone will be able to view the items during the day and even buy them there and then at the 'buy now' price. We will have further updates on the auction in the next few days.

Red Bull Red Jersey:

We announced a few weeks back that we will have the 'Red Bull Red Jersey' competition going on over the weekend (details here - http://www.bike-fest.com/red.php). We have now nominated the timed section for this event which will be announced during the briefing on Saturday (7th June) morning. But be assured we will have some music and some cider waiting for you at the end of it!

Music, drinks and food on site:

12 hour racing is not just about riding your bike fast…there is so much more to it. To make the weekend complete we will have our Bikefest DJ playing some tunes on Friday evening and Saturday from the afternoon onwards. The Bikefest bar will be open on Friday afternoon/evening as well as on Saturday afternoon/evening and will have a broader selection of drinks available in 2014. Ian from the Drop-Off café will be serving food starting on Friday evening all the way through the weekend.
