AnaNichoola Her Pleasure Arm Warmers £29

Tested by Julie Brown, tester for The Bike List

Now I know in my heart that bike kit isn't about looks or style but all about practicality and helping you ride more effectively, faster and for longer. I am right yes?

Yet the first thing that struck me when I unpacked these arm warmers is how stylish they are - honestly I'm not normally that shallow! Lovely colours, Gok Wan style fashion detailing and a great fit had me donning them before it was even cold enough to warrant it.

I've worn arm warmers before but more often than not ended up with them slipping down only a few miles into a ride, leaving one or both elbows exposed to the elements, which is flipping annoying. But not these little beauties. AnaNichoola makes women specific cycling gear and in these arm warmers, part of the Style Your Ride range, has produced a garment that does the job it's meant to do.
The ribbed fabric is very elastic and sticks to the arms a treat. Wide and extra grippy elastic around the top of the warmer prevents any slipping and the long ribbed cuff at the bottom can be turned up if you need them to be a little shorter.

These warmers come right up over your biceps so really do offer good protection from the cold. They are also streamlined enough to get under other garments, a fleece or jacket for instance. I've found some warmers too bulky for this so it's a definite positive.

They're extremely easy to wear and really comfortable once you've manhandled them on - they are pretty tight, which is one of the reasons they stay up so well. But not uncomfortably so. I wore these while wobbling along snow lined country roads during December and January and am so glad I did - they kept my arms toasty. I did wonder if I would get a dose of sweaty elbows once I was warmed up, but no I never felt overheated in these.

Sizing wise they come up quite small. I don't have particularly big arms and I needed a medium which is still a snug fit. Make sure you measure your arms to get the proper fit - there are instructions on the website.

I've washed these warmers a lot and so far they have retained their shape and grippyness so hopefully they'll last for some time yet.

Racing cyclist Anna Glowinski is the brains behind the Style Your Ride range with the aim of making girls on bikes look more stylish. A quick peek at the AnaNichoola website had me drooling - some of the tops are just my thing. Take a look if you want to add a bit of a fashion statement to your cycling wardrobe.

At a glance

Verdict Extremely good quality arm warmers that do the job well. They look good too which is a big plus. Not the cheapest on the market, but I’d spend the extra pennies for this type of performance.

AnaNichoola says:

When doing our market research for the Style Your Ride winter collection, we commonly heard women complaining that arm warmers never fitted properly. They were either too short, or fell down from the top - sound familiar? Well, we have made a range of arm warmers that are measured from your bicep, with good skin contact elastic, even when moist. The ribbed cuff means that you can comfortably roll up the arm warmer, which has been made extra-long, and thus will fit all arm lengths. The ribbing continues under the elbow for unbeatable comfort and flexibility, as they stretch open and closed when you move. The front panel is a soft, fleece-backed lycra that feels luxurious. With 4 colour-ways you are spoilt for choice.

The arm warmers come up fairly small in terms of tightness, please see the sizing chart and if you feel you are between sizes opt for the larger choice. If trying them on in store, the cuff seam should feel tight as you push your hand through, and snug once it is on, it should not feel uncomfortably tight.

Tech spec:

  • Soft and supple fleece lined, stretch polyester front
  • Ribbed elbows for flexibility
  • Full ribbed cuff for adjustable length
  • Generous length
  • Internal flatlocked seam at cuff
  • Grippy, strong-contact elastic at the top of the arm
  • Tight fit
